Burmese Thai Tea Recipe

Looking for a great cup of authentic Burmese Thai Tea.

Follow these steps and adjust to taste.

  1. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a pan.
  2. Place 3 tablespoons of Burmese Thai Tea in a large tea bag or directly into the boiling water. Placing the leaves directly into the water steeps the leaves better, but you will need a fine-filter tea basket or coffee filter to strain them.
  3. Simmer tea in water for 3-5 minutes, depending on how strong you like it. Experiment, it’s fun! While the tea is simmering, you can start the next step.
  4. In a separate pan, heat 4 cups whole milk or non-dairy milk (I prefer oat) just short of boiling it.
    • If you want it sweeter or more like Thai iced tea, try half condensed milk and half whole milk. You can always add more condensed milk instead of the whole milk if you want a sweeter tea.
  5. Filter out the tea leaves from the water (see step 2, if you forgot).
    • If you don’t have a teapot, simply pour your filtered tea into the pot that contains your hot milk and skip next step.
  6. Combine hot milk with tea in your teapot.
  7. Add sugar or honey to taste. If you used condensed milk, you will likely want to skip this step.
  8. Enjoy some amazing Burmese style hot tea.

  • 4 cups milk or non-dairy substitute (or you can try half condensed milk and half milk for a sweeter tea).
  • 4 cups water (filtered preferably).
  • 1 fine tea brewing basket, large tea bag, or coffee filter.
  • 2 pans for boiling ingredients.
  • 1 Teapot (optional).
